Keenan and the Giants

by Stanley Quan

I previously wrote about the inspirational story of Keenan Cahill, the 16-year-old YouTube star living a teenage dream.

Yesterday, he released a music video featuring him and some players from my favorite team, the San Francisco Giants!

Can’t beat that:

Wednesday, May 25th, the Giants are hosting Dynamite: A Fundraiser for Keenan Cahill.

A Book’s Cover

A lot of times, people make quick assumptions and lean on stereotypes when meeting others. I think it’s kind of human nature to do so. I wouldn’t deny that I do it myself.

First impressions tend to leave an overemphasized opinion. For good reason though, since it’s all you have to base off of until you meet again.

But through experiences, I’ve learned that people surprise me all the time. Sometimes it’s hard to move past that initial impression, but if you don’t, you miss the whole story.

Watching clips from shows like Britain’s Got Talent, I think the best performers are those who surprise us:

What a surprise . But really, if we didn’t make assumptions, we shouldn’t have been surprised, right?

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Take the time to read it.

Flash Mob

2011 April 13

After going through many YouTube runs of watching recorded flash mobs in my life, I have always wanted to be in one.

Well, that dream came true last month.

The Camp Kesem coordinator team flash mobbed our student support coordinator, Brandon/Tonka, for his 20th birthday at Atlanta International Airport before our return flight back from Camp Kesem National Conference. Check it out:

It was a very cool experience to be part of such a seemingly random event in the public. And it was even more cool to see people’s reactions, clapping and cheering for us as we danced, sung, and quickly went on our way :)

About Camp Kesem

I’ve talked a lot about my involvement in Camp Kesem in the past, but here’s a video all about what we do and the camper families we serve:

Camp Kesem Berkeley is a student-run non-profit that organizes a free weeklong summer camp for kids whose parents have or have had cancer.

This is my third year being a part of the organization and my first as Co-Chair. I’ve gone to camp the past two summers and have had so much fun and learned so much from being a member, counselor, coordinator, and Co-Chair. Graduating soon, I honestly can’t imagine life without Kesem or a summer without camp…

Let’s Do It Again, Giants!

Another baseball season starts today!

My favorite team since childhood, the San Francisco Giants, won the World Series last year. A lot of people have said to me that baseball is boring to watch, but I love it! The pitcher-batter matchups, the home runs, the great defensive plays, the smell of the ballpark…

The Giants’ end-of-season and playoff run was magical. Let’s do it again.

GO GIANTS!
