The Road to Happiness

This was the sign outside of a sushi restaurant where I ate in Honolulu last week. It was where the waitress greeted you before finding you a table.

Delicious sushi, so the sign was pretty appropro haha.

It got me thinking about the “road to happiness” though, and how it is different for everyone.

Our paths may weave all over and even cross at times, but we each have our own.

Honolulu, Hawaii

I was a learner on a trip to Kaiser Permanente Hawaii in Honolulu this past week.

Yup… Hawaii.

80 degrees and sun? Can’t beat that. I defrosted.

Definitely got in my long walks along the beach. There’s nothing quite like feeling the sand between your toes, with comfortably warm water to wash it away. Add in the soothing sound of waves crashing ashore, and you’ve got tropical paradise.

Lots of tourists, especially from Japan.

Fresh fish, great sushi.

One night, every restaurant we tried to go to was booked (Valentine’s Day planning fail on our part).

Checked out Pearl Harbor on the way to the airport before flying out. It was amazing to just see the sheer size of some of the ships and missiles there.

Can work always be like this?

Syracuse, New York

I was a learner on a trip to State University of New York (SUNY Upstate) in Syracuse this past week.

It’s nice to be able to just sit back, observe, and learn. Absorbed a lot that I’ll be able to put into practice coming up.

Wednesday night, had an great time watching Georgetown vs Syracuse at the Carrier Dome in a sea of my favorite col0r (Go Orange!). It was a really close game with a good ending in overtime: quite an introduction to some intense Big East college basketball.

Good people, good food, good all around (patient at the heart), following my passion.

I’m going on my first work trip today! I’m off to Syracuse, New York as a learner and am excited to start traveling, which is something that drew me to the job in the first place.

Pretty soon, I’ll be helping hospitals and clinics implement electronic medical records at the ground level :)

Not That Cold

A few weeks ago, it was 30 degrees out and I said something I never thought I’d say:

“It’s not that cold.”

30 DEGREES! …and not that cold.

This is what three months of living in Wisconsin has done to me. It’s kind of crazy how fast our bodies can adjust to weather.

Back home in the Bay Area, 40 degrees was pretty much as cold as it got, and that was freezing. Now, in the thick of winter, that’s a warm day here.
