I was in Albuquerque, New Mexico for the early part of this week. It was my first trip to work with my primary customer, Presbyterian Health Services.
Crazy windy. Other than some mountains, very flat land. Saw a bunch of tumbleweeds rolling around.
Opted for a fun and laid back grill out instead of dinner at a restaurant one night. It turned out so well, we might make it a regular occurrence.
It was awesome meeting the team I’ll be working with though. Should be a good one!
Almost missed my flight and left behind due to some miscommunication, but definitely looking forward to future trips out there.
Being Treated With Something I Worked On
Went to the doctor’s office today and had an interesting experience.
It turns out that the clinic was using Epic as it’s electronic medical record (EMR) system. So as I sat there and watched the doctor click through the screens and create orders in the system, I knew exactly what was going on and how it worked. I could configure every part of it.
A few months ago, I was being trained to use Epic software and at times, took on the role of a doctor to learn the end user workflow. Every day at work, I am in the system. Now, I was seeing it from the patient perspective firsthand.
Sitting in the exam room, this kind of blew my mind. I saw all the direct benefits of using an EMR: the accessibility, efficiency, coordination of care, complete documentation, and more.
How many times does this happen in life? I was being treated with something I worked on. Crazy.
I was driving while it was snowing today, and it felt like I was going at warp speed, zooming by millions of little white stars.
Rain and hail don’t quite have the same effect. There’s just something magical about snow fall.
I always love to look up at the snow falling. Little white fluffs just raining down.
I feel like I’m in a different world, amongst the stars.
