Was out on a work trip in Fairfax, Virginia, so thought I’d take advantage and…
I visited our nation’s capital for the first time this past weekend!
I tacked on an extra day before my business trip and explored the National Mall all day- saw the Capitol building, Smithsonian museums (Air and Space museum, Native American museum, Museum of natural history, Museum of American history), the White House, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and Korean War Veterans Memorial.
It was amazing to see and take in all the history around me. To stand on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial overlooking the Washington Monument, where so many important events have happened, was my favorite. I could almost imagine Martin Luther King Jr. starting his speech “I have a dream…”
On the trip, I also got to see some good friends I hadn’t seen in a while :)
Last stop was eating at Good Stuff Eatery, the burger joint that the Obamas love! If you’re wondering, the Obama burger was delicious.
I was in New Orleans for the first time this past weekend and what a weekend it was!
Landed late Friday to a surprise friend opening my cab door. And from there, a spontaneous, awesomely fun night on Bourbon Street. That Friday night was crazy, a whirl of hurricanes, test tube shots, and dancing at the Beach and the Cowboy.
The rest of the time, I got to see the French Quarter in the day time, walking around with hand grenade drinks and checking out bull riding at the Swamp.
Finished up with dinner and a stroll through the Frenchmen Street art market at night.
What did I learn over the weekend?
Nola sure knows how to party.
I dislocated my pinky finger playing football this past Saturday.
It was kind of a freak incident. The ball wasn’t coming in particularly fast or anything, it just hit a weird spot and bent my finger.
It was a cold day and I didn’t really feel it, but definitely noticed something was off when I looked down at my hand right after.
So off to the ED I went and after some x-rays, the physician realigned and splinted it.
If any of you have ever taken your pinky fingers for granted, don’t anymore. I can’t believe how many things have become harder to do with an immobilized pinky finger.
Typing is tough, driving is different, and believe it or not, tying your shoes is difficult.
I got fitted with a new smaller splint today and will have to wear it for a good two months while doing some finger exercise physical therapy. Protect your body!
