Cambridge and Boston, Massachusetts
I was in Cambridge and Boston for the first time this past week.
Got a chance to visit the Harvard area and loved the old-style brick architecture all around. Also, tons of Christmas trees and decorations all over the city.
Boston traffic sucks though, and the roads and freeways are narrow and confusing. Even if I lived in Boston, I don’t think I’d know how to get from point A to point B very easily. Whoever did the city planning sucked.
Loved the food and got a great dose of the fresh seafood, including lobster.
Overall, I enjoyed the city and could see myself potentially going to school or working there in the future.
On the trip back, stopped in Providence, Rhode Island for some food and was greeted by super intense fog that caused flight delays.
“It seems to me that the years between eighteen and twenty-eight are the hardest, psychologically. It’s then you realize this is make or break, you no longer have the excuse of youth, and it is time to become an adult – but you are not ready.”
-Helen Mirren
And what do you know… I’m smack dab in the middle of it.
Life’s tough, decisions are tough. But I’m up for the challenge.
Was in Detroit for just under 24 hours, but had some free time to explore the Motor City.
I supported a clinic in Grosse Pointe and loved the red, orange, and yellow leaves all over the trees and in the front yards of beautiful brick houses.
Also, got a chance to check out Greektown and Foxtown. Cool restaurants and bars.
Had some pretty tasty local beers, including one called Motor City Ghetto Blaster haha.
Walked around the outside of Comerica Park, where the Giants swept the Tigers for the World Series Championship in 2012. It’s awesome looking from the outside and it has a sunken field. I can see how it would be really fun to be in the area on a gameday.
One thing that struck me was how few people were walking around downtown. Where was everyone?
I guess the auto industry crash hit pretty hard and you could see signs of the city’s bankruptcy everywhere.
But alas, there’s hope! Saw a lot of renovation going on and the Challenge Detroit rejuvenation project pushing to bring the proud city back.
Was in Tucson over the last week supporting at the busiest cancer center I’ve ever been.
It’s definitely a college town mixed with lots of cacti, desert, and dryness, though I definitely welcomed the mid-70 degree weather.
Tried a Sonoran hot dog – basically a chili dog on steroids. Plus, got to grab dinner with an old Kesem friend :)
The mountain backdrop looked awesome at sunrise.
Didn’t enjoy returning to 30 degree weather in Madison…
