InterstellarJust watched Interstellar tonight. Wow.

What an incredible and original film.

Awe-inspiring, heart-wrenching, and unsettling. Humanity.

Certainly makes you think and stirs emotions.

At times, it felt beyond the realm of possibility or even imagination, but who knows? Wormholes and blackholes, 4th and 5th dimensions.

Mind blown. Trying to piece it back together now…

Little Rock, Arkansas

Ventured into the South for work once again, this time to Little Rock.

The two instances I remembered the city for were the Little Rock Nine (desgregation of schools) or Bill and Hillary Clinton’s residence there for when Bill was the Governor of Arkansas for 12 years before becoming President.

I didn’t really get a chance to explore history, but did read about the Clintons’ amazing accomplishments on a wall at the airport. What a power couple.

Ate at Flying Fish, where you can bring in your Billy Bass for adoption and get a free basket of catfish. Had fried frog legs and they were pretty great. Not much different from chicken wings.

One thing that always gets me is the deep Southern accent. Heard a lot of it this trip and had to concentrate to understand sometimes haha.

Arkansas is state #36  in the race!

Snowglobe

I went to the Wisconsin-Nebraska football game at Camp Randall Stadium yesterday and as the snow slowly came down, it felt like we were in a snowglobe.

Melvin Gordon’s record-setting rushing day included, the game was a blast. The snow made for an awesome backdrop.

I also biked home in the snow last night. It wasn’t something on my bucket list, but interesting and somewhat exhilarating nonetheless. The trip was pretty smooth through the sludge, except for a few nervous icy parts. The night sky and chilling cold felt so fresh.

Shoveled the front crosswalk this morning and so it begins…

Fourth Wisconsin winter, here we go.

Insecurity – it gets the best of us.

You gotta believe in yourself though. Because if not even you, then why would anybody else?

And if you could change something, you have to go for something amazing.

…I want legs like a cheetah too.

Awesome Austin (and Houston too)

Visited the state where everything’s bigger this past weekend: Texas.

First stop was Houston to visit my friend. We got some nightlife in and witnessed the weekly turtle races at Little Woodrow’s. It was quite the event with bleacher seats and lots of cheering. I’d think that some animal rights group would have shut this type of thing down in California… but not in Texas.

Enjoyed some morning pastries and then tex mex for lunch before driving a couple hours to Austin.

I’ve heard so many good things about the city from friends that my expectations were pretty high, and I think Austin met them.

It was reunion time as a bunch of buds from the Bay Area and elsewhere flew in as well. Airbnb was awesome for just this type of situation as we fit nine people reasonably comfortably into our place.

Friday night, we explored Dirty Sixth street and raged the night away. Cheap drinks and endless bars.

Saturday was a fun-filled day as well, starting off with some family style servings from one of the best barbeque places anywhere, Salt Lick BBQ. Texans do barbeque right:

Then we cooled off a bit in the afternoon at Barton Springs Pool. It was pretty unique as a dammed-off natural spring where we were swimming amongst wildlife like kelp and salamanders. The water was pretty chilly but refreshing. After, we ended up playing a little pickup football up on the grass field, which was really fun.

To cap the night, we grabbed some fancy sushi at Uchiko and roamed around Rainey Street, a strip of houses converted to bars. Definitely an interesting look and feel, good vibes, and food trucks.

Before leaving Sunday mid-afternoon, some of us went for a run along Town Lake and then back through Rainey Street and Sixth Street, the places we had been the nights before. It was a nice contrast to see how different things looked in the day time. It was my first long run since hurting my leg around three months ago, and running felt as good as always.

All in all, a great sunny weekend exploring a fantastic city.
