Chicago, IL

2012 April 17

I went to Chicago for the first time this weekend, and I loved it! By the end of the trip, I could see myself living there someday.

  • I hated having to pay lots of tolls for driving on the Illinois Tollway there and back…
  • Absolutely loved The Bean! Stood there and marveled at it for quite some time. It’s so cool how the it blends with the sky on cloudy days and distorts reality a bit.
  • The Magnificent Mile reminded me of San Francisco a bit.
  • The metro system is super convenient for getting all around Chicago, though it’s not the cleanest.
  • Food, of course:
    • Lou Malnati’s Chicago-style deep dish pizza was pretty good, but the salad was amazing.
    • Hot Doug’s (featured on the Food Network) hot dogs were good too, but not quite worth the 1.5 hour wait.
  • Green Mill jazz club: the organist, guitarist, and drummer were all fantastic . You could see the passion in their faces.
  • John Hancock Observatory: great 360 degree views of the city
  • Sears Tower (or Willis Tower): I could never find you! Always mistook over buildings for you
  • Navy Pier: touristy
  • Sound-bar club: music was a little too loud, but reminded me of Vegas
  • Saw so many people running on Lakeshore Drive on Saturday that I thought a race was going on. There wasn’t. Just lots of runners. Awesome.

All in all, a really fun trip. So glad to have shared Chicago with you, Michelle :) Other friends, come visit!
