If It’s Meant To Be

“Well, if it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be…”
Many people use it to describe love/relationships.
What to make of this phrase? I know I’ve certainly used it before, but it’s a bit ambiguous.
Does it mean that you should give up and leave it up to fate? Put it off for a while and try again? Or just let it be and see what happens?
Perhaps the ambiguity suits the subject. I mean, no one really knows about love, right?
