The Young Upstart

2011 January 17

New intern, new student group member, new kid on the block.

From an organizational outlook, these spots tend to bring original ideas and fresh perspective. They are usually a little naive too, unaware and unafraid of risks. Little is expected from them, but therein lies the secret weapon.

Think back to the times when you found yourself in this role. With low expectations comes an incredible desire to prove you belong. That hunger drives you to do great things.

The young upstart. I relish this role.

I think the longer you stay in an organization, the easier it gets to fall back on “this is how things have always been done” and stick to a comfortable status quo. This is when you become old. Do everything you can to stay young.

Keep your inner young upstart alive and strong.
