Inspiration: Fall Down, Get Back Up

2010 May 4

If you fall, you can always find a way to get back up.

Nick Vujicic was born in Melbourne, Australia with the rare Tetra-amelia disorder: limbless, missing both arms at shoulder level, and legless but with two small feet, one of which has two toes.

At age eight, Nick felt hopeless, broken, and alone. A key turning point in his life was when his mother showed him a newspaper article about a man dealing with a severe disability. This showed Nick that he wasn’t the only one dealing with a huge obstacle in life. He decided to make the most out of what he had.

Today, Nick is 26 years old and is a preacher, a motivational speaker, and Director of the non-profit organization, Life Without Limbs . He’s traveled to over 19 countries all across the world to give speeches about disability and hope.

“I’m down here. Face down. And I have no arms, no legs. It should be impossible for me to get back up. But it’s not. You see, I’ll try 100 times to get up.  And if I fail 100 times… if I fail and I give up, do you think I’m ever going to get up? No. But if I fail, I try again, and again, and again.”

“It’s not how you start. It’s how you finish.”

Despite the lack of limbs, Nick surfs and swims, and plays golf and soccer. He leads a life above limitations.

“I love living life. I am happy.”

What an inspirational and amazing story! It seems there is no limitation if you try your hardest. Even you may fall or fail, as long as you don’t give up, you always can pick yourself up and try again, you will succeed at the end.

If he can do so much and be so happy with no arms and legs, think what you can do if you persevere and let yourself be happy.
